Scottsdale prepares for Earth Week events and local community initiatives

Interstate 10 in Phoenix will be closed this weekend between State Route 51 and State Route 143. The closure, part of the Interstate 10 Broadway curve improvement project, is scheduled from Friday night to Monday morning for utility relocation work.

Scottsdale's Earth Week activities are set to run from April 22-29. Events include volunteer road cleanups, tree giveaways, a solar power presentation, and a green expo breakfast with Mayor David D. Ortega and City Council members. A public tour of the Thomas Groundwater Treatment Facility is also planned.

On Saturday, the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market will host a city booth giving away small trees while supplies last. Additionally, there will be a guided walk exploring the lifecycle of the Saguaro cactus at Brown’s Ranch Trailhead.

Sunday features another guided walk titled "Nature as Therapy," aimed at demonstrating how nature can improve well-being.

The Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts presents "Balloonacy," a comedy show running from April 29 to May 1. The Scottsdale Jazz Festival takes place on April 30 at Scottsdale Civic Center, featuring artists like Richard Elliot and Jesse McGuire.

A Prescription Drug Take Back event is scheduled for April 30 at two locations in Scottsdale as part of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s initiative.

The Scottsdale360 series begins on April 28 with a session on water conservation led by Water Policy Manager Gretchen Baumgardner. This virtual learning series covers various topics affecting the community.

Maricopa County animal shelters are currently full and seeking help through adoption or fostering of pets. Meanwhile, tickets are available for the inaugural Pac-12 Baseball Tournament starting May 25 at Scottsdale Stadium.
