Scottsdale, a town with historical ties to the military, has launched the Scottsdale Veterans Trail. This online story map allows users to explore various locations in Scottsdale that commemorate the service and sacrifice of military members throughout history.
The trail includes over a dozen sites of significance. Among them is the Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen, which honors 66 veterans from the Scottsdale area who lost their lives in service. Another notable site is McCormick Stillman Railroad Park, home to Arizona's Gratitude (Merci) Train Car. This car was one of 49 sent by France as a gesture of thanks for American support after World War II.
Additionally, visitors can explore the Thunderbird Field II Veterans Memorial at Scottsdale Airport. This memorial pays tribute to 5,500 aviation cadets who trained there during World War II and features an authentic Stearman aircraft used for training during that time.
The Scottsdale Veterans Trail serves as a digital guide to these and other important landmarks, offering an opportunity to reflect on and honor the contributions of uniformed service members.
