Work is set to commence in November on a two-mile stretch of Scottsdale Road, spanning from Jomax Road to Dixileta Drive. The project aims to enhance safety and drainage along this busy corridor in northern Scottsdale.

One significant safety upgrade involves the installation of a new multilane roundabout, which will replace the existing signalized intersection at Scottsdale Road and Dynamite Boulevard. "Roundabouts have been proven to reduce the likelihood of severe crashes by minimizing conflict points and forcing slower vehicle speeds," as stated in the release. Additionally, roundabouts are more cost-effective over time due to lower maintenance requirements compared to traffic signals.

The plan also includes replacing the current continuous center turn lane with a raised center median, another measure intended to reduce vehicle conflict points. New left-turn lanes will be constructed at busier crossings. Furthermore, a pedestrian crosswalk signal at Pinnacle Vista Drive, along with a shared-use path and bike lanes, will enhance safety for pedestrians and cyclists exploring the area's natural scenery.

Drainage improvements are also part of the project. The current road design features dips and rises that follow the land's contour, which can lead to hazardous conditions during heavy rainfall as water accumulates in low areas. To address this issue, the project will eliminate these low points by installing several new drainage culverts designed to manage stormwater flows while keeping the roadway clear.

The total budget for this initiative is $43.7 million. Approximately $31 million will come from federal transportation grant funds, with the remaining amount funded by Scottsdale's dedicated transportation sales tax and regional transportation funds.
