City of Scottsdale issued the following announcement on Oct. 7.
Back to the basics. To maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others, get vaccinated as soon as you can and wear a mask indoors whenever you can’t maintain physical distance of six feet or more. Scottsdale is in high transmission which is defined as greater than 100 cases per 100,000 people. The latest date shows our COVID-19 case rate is 156.9 cases per 100,000 residents. For context, 156.9 cases per 100,000 means there were about 390 new cases over a seven-day period. Find a vaccine or attend the Thursday, Oct. 14, free walk-in pop-up event (see below for details).
Scottsdale is hosting a free follow-up walk-in vaccination pop-up event. Those needing a vaccine or who received their first dose Sept. 23 at our pop-up event can get their second dose from 1:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at the same location – Eldorado Park Community Center, 2311 N. Miller Road. We are partnering with the Maricopa County Department of Public Health who will be administering the Pfizer vaccine – which is approved for ages 12 and older. Civic Center renovations begin Oct. 18; fencing surrounding area goes up Monday. The $27.3 million project approved by Scottsdale voters in the 2019 Bond Election begins Oct. 18. Scottsdale City Hall, Civic Center Library, the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and surrounding businesses will remain open. However, for safety purposes, a construction fence will be installed around the project perimeter Monday, Oct. 11. The area will be fully-closed to pedestrian traffic for about four months as crews salvage trees, install waterlines and complete demolition. Plug into Electronics Recycling Collection Day, Saturday. Scottsdale residents can recycle unwanted electronics from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at the city's North Corporation Yard, 9191 E. San Salvador. Items accepted include computer, office and entertainment equipment.
City seeks input on Old Town Scottsdale Character Area Plan & Zoning Ordinance updates. On Aug. 24, the City Council initiated:
- A non-major General Plan amendment to update the Old Town Scottsdale Character Area Plan (Case 5-GP-2021)
- A text amendment to the city’s Zoning Ordinance for the Downtown (D), Downtown Overlay (DO), and Planned Block Development (PBD) zoning districts – and other affected sections of the ordinance – as well as the Downtown Infill Incentive District (Cases 1-TA-2021 and 1-II-2010#3)
Provide comments on draft amendments to the Public Safety Plan Ordinance. On Sept. 10, 2013, the Scottsdale City Council approved a Public Safety Plan Ordinance. The purpose of this ordinance is to promote the general health, safety and welfare of our community by requiring certain types of businesses to file, follow and keep current a public safety plan. The ordinance also requires mandatory training for security personnel.
On Aug. 26, the City Council initiated an update to the ordinance. You can review the draft ordinance amendments and provide comments by Nov. 30, to the Scottsdale Police Department’s Public Information Office at PIO@ScottsdaleAZ.gov.

Family Resource Center provides free services to support families, parents, caregivers and their young children. Located at the Paiute Neighborhood Center, the resource center offers guidance and support for families with children up to age 5. Learn more about the Scottsdale Family Resource Center.
Eldorado Community Center restarts open-gym. The community center has a full basketball court that is available for drop-in and volleyball play. A membership is required for drop-in use and costs $5 annually.
