City of Scottsdale issued the following announcement on Dec. 31
Scottsdale Mayor W.J. "Jim" Lane signed an amendment to his emergency declaration today, ensuring there is no gap as newly-elected Mayor David Ortega takes office Jan. 12.
Mayor Lane issued this statement:
"Today I signed an amendment to the declaration of emergency that I first issued March 18 when the magnitude of the COVID-19 pandemic was freshly upon us.
The sole purpose of this amendment is to ensure that there is no gap in the city's emergency response structure or supporting policies as a new mayor and new City Council members prepare to take office Jan. 12. This is a matter of procedure and part of the city's transition to new leadership.
When Mayor David Ortega takes office Jan. 12, he is expected to immediately sign a new declaration of emergency in continuing support of the city's ongoing response to the pandemic. The City Council is scheduled to affirm Mayor Ortega's declaration at that night's City Council meeting."
