City of Tempe issued the following announcement on Aug. 7
The City of Tempe announced today that Tempe Beach Park, Town Lake Marina and boat concessions at Tempe Town Lake will reopen tomorrow, Aug. 8. Licensed private boats can also use the lake but must access from the marina. Boat Beach and Lakeview Drive will remain closed until further notice so cleanup and repairs can continue. The Tempe Beach Park parking lot off Ash Ave. will also remain closed.
Kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, rowing, canoeing and all other lake activities can resume. Pontoon and pedal boat rentals will also be available. Lake users must stay east of the yellow floating boom line at all times.
Certain areas of the park path remain inaccessible due to the ongoing cleanup effort. This includes the south side of the lake, from the Beach Park parking lot to the Elmore Pedestrian Bridge. It also includes the north side from Lakeview Drive to the Elmore Pedestrian Bridge. Bicyclists and pedestrians will not be able to walk or bike though these areas. See a map of bike and pedestrian routes here.
The boat storage area on the northwest side of the lake (under Loop 202) will reopen to the public; however, those boats will not be able to launch from Boat Beach.
The lake had been closed since a July 29 Union Pacific train derailment near Tempe Beach Park. For more information about that, visit tempe.gov/RailroadBridge.
