The Scottsdale Police Department is joining forces with other local law enforcement agencies for a DUI Task Force and Saturation Patrol during the WM Phoenix Open from February 6 to 8. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety in the community.
In collaboration with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Arizona Department of Transportation, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Scottsdale Police Department will work alongside Apache Junction PD, Chandler PD, Gilbert PD, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, Mesa PD, Phoenix PD, and Salt River PD. The goal of this task force is to identify drivers who choose to drive impaired and remove them from the roads before they can cause harm.
To promote awareness, these agencies will engage in the Know Your Limit educational outreach program. This initiative will take place in the afternoons from Thursday, February 6 through Saturday, February 8 near the main entrance of the event. Afterward, they will shift focus to enforcement as part of the DUI Task Force.
"Impaired driving is dangerous, and the consequences can be tragic," stated a spokesperson for the task force. "The good news is that it is entirely preventable, and getting a safe ride saves lives." They advised those planning to consume alcohol or use recreational marijuana to arrange for a sober ride home.
