Scottsdale students are encouraged to apply for the Mayor’s Ability Awards, a scholarship aimed at supporting college-bound students with disabilities. This initiative offers financial assistance to those who have shown resilience in overcoming challenges related to their disabilities and wish to pursue further education. The scholarship is managed by the Mayor's Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities and sponsored in partnership with the Gila River Indian Community.

“The Mayor’s Ability Awards are about empowering students with disabilities to realize their full potential,” stated Scottsdale Mayor Lisa Borowsky. “By providing scholarships, we help ensure that their intelligence, creativity, and determination are celebrated and supported, allowing them to achieve their academic and professional goals without limitations.”

Eligible Scottsdale students planning to attend a college, university, vocational or trade school can submit applications until March 21. For assistance in completing the application process, students are advised to consult local academic or transitional counselors. Detailed information regarding scholarship eligibility is available on the city’s website at ScottsdaleAZ.gov by searching "Ability Awards."

Recipients will be honored at the Mayor’s Ability Awards Ceremony scheduled from 4-6 p.m. on Friday, April 18, at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West located at 3830 N. Marshall Way in Scottsdale.

For those experiencing difficulties with the online application form, support is available by contacting Yvonne Cahill at 480-312-7977.
