Scottsdale honors Dick Bowers; police receive traffic safety grants

On November 5, all voting locations in Maricopa County will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters can vote at any location, request a replacement ballot, or drop off their early ballots. More information is available at Locations.Maricopa.Vote or by calling 480-312-2412.

The city of Scottsdale is mourning the loss of Richard A. "Dick" Bowers, a public service veteran who passed away on October 30. Bowers served as Deputy City Manager from 1981 to 1991 and as City Manager from 1991 to 2000, playing a key role in Scottsdale's development. A funeral Mass is scheduled for November 21 at St. Theresa Parish in Phoenix.

Scottsdale is honoring over 40 local veterans and service members with large streetlight banners along Drinkwater Boulevard as part of the Scottsdale Salutes program, now in its third year.

The Scottsdale Police Department received two grants from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety: a $60,000 Speed Awareness Grant and a $55,000 Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Grant to support traffic safety initiatives citywide.

Public meetings are scheduled for the week of November 4 and include sessions by the Veterans Advisory Commission and Development Review Board among others.

Events such as the screening of "John Nieto: An American Spirit Walk" on November 7 at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West and the One Water Brewing Showcase on November 8 at Canal Convergence are set to take place.

The Paiute Neighborhood Center will host a Fall Family Festival & Health Fair on November 9, offering various activities and health resources.

Scottsdale's Neighborhood Advisory Commission is accepting nominations for its “Spirit of Scottsdale” award program until December 31. The Neighborhood Enhancement Grant Program offers grants for neighborhood revitalization projects.

A job opening for Solid Waste Program Representative Senior has been announced by the city, offering competitive benefits in a supportive work environment.
