The Scottsdale City Council is set to discuss potential amendments to local laws aimed at addressing noise, nuisance parties, and short-term rentals. On May 6, the council will consider changes to city code provisions that would enhance the city's ability to hold individuals accountable for disruptive neighborhood gatherings, particularly those occurring at short-term rental properties.

The proposed ordinance changes include defining promoters who use residential properties for nuisance parties as responsible parties under city code. This change aims to increase accountability for those causing disturbances in neighborhoods. Additionally, Scottsdale police may gain authority to remove non-residents from a property after a nuisance party is declared. Another proposed change would specifically prohibit minors from renting short-term rental properties.

These ordinances would apply broadly to all residential properties, although issues with nuisance parties are more prevalent at short-term rental locations. Since 2017, Arizona state law has restricted local governments from regulating these rentals based solely on their classification or use.

Scottsdale residents dealing with problematic properties can find resources and information by searching "short-term rentals" on ScottsdaleAZ.gov.

In other news, the city is encouraging public participation in meetings about enhancing livability through shade and trees. Two meetings are scheduled: one on May 15 at the Community Design Studio and another on May 16 at Florence Ely Nelson Desert Park.

Additionally, Scottsdale is promoting water safety as drownings remain a leading cause of death among young children in the U.S. The city offers various tips and resources for preventing such incidents.

The annual "Beat the Heat" program is also underway, providing care packages to vulnerable seniors during summer. Donations can be dropped off at Via Linda Senior Center until May 17.

Maricopa County reported 645 heat-associated deaths in 2023. In response, Scottsdale offers hydration and cooling stations across eight locations including senior centers and libraries.

Public meetings scheduled for this week include a City Council Special Meeting and Regular Meeting on May 6, along with other sessions throughout the month.

Several community events are planned for May including Spring Arizona Restaurant Week and celebrations of the Indian Bend Wash history with free activities throughout the month.

Scottsdale's programs continue with initiatives like document shredding events and food bank drives while highlighting ongoing projects such as streetlight replacements in Old Town and multiuse path repairs.

Residents are advised of nightly road restrictions due to Loop 101 Pima Freeway improvements as part of ADOT's two-year project.

May marks Mental Health Awareness Month and Skin Cancer Awareness Month with educational resources available on recognizing signs of mental health crises and skin cancer prevention tips respectively.

A job opportunity is open for a Maintenance Technician at Reata Sports Complex focusing on turf management across sports fields hosting various tournaments and practices.
