Scottsdale City Council has approved the 2022 Transportation Action Plan (TAP 2022) during its meeting on April 26. The plan emphasizes adaptable transportation planning, the integration of new technology, and investment in current infrastructure. TAP 2022 comprises five key components: Streets, Transit, Bikeways, Pedestrian use, and Trails.

"The Transportation Action Plan prioritizes enhancements to existing transportation modes throughout the city," stated Mark Melnychenko, Director of Transportation and Streets. "How we get around Scottsdale is constantly evolving. The action plan gives staff the flexibility to meet the changing transportation needs of our residents and visitors."

Key priorities of TAP 2022 include supporting sustainability and cost savings through infrastructure preservation and maintenance; ensuring adaptability to emerging technology and shifting priorities; bridging system gaps to improve local and regional connectivity via path systems, trail corridors, and transit routes; developing complete streets for safe access for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit riders across all age groups; and enhancing transit services by increasing trolley frequency and connections.

The development of TAP 2022 was aligned with the city's 2035 General Plan and serves as a replacement for the 2016 Transportation Master Plan. Its approval followed a year-long public engagement process that included public meetings, input from the Scottsdale Transportation Commission, and a work study session with City Council members.
