Scottsdale enforces new licensing requirements for short-term rentals

All vacation rental properties in Scottsdale are required to obtain a city license, regardless of previous status. The deadline for short-term and vacation rental properties to secure this license is Sunday, January 8. The city emphasizes that no properties are grandfathered in; every property offered for rent for less than 30 days must apply for and receive a Scottsdale license.

Starting January 9, operating a short-term or vacation rental property in Scottsdale without a license will be illegal. Violators will face enforcement actions, including fines starting at $1,000 per violation.

The Scottsdale Solid Waste department has announced the Christmas Tree Roundup from January 6-16. Residents can dispose of unwanted live Christmas trees and wreaths at designated drop-off locations or through scheduled Brush/Bulk service weeks. Artificial trees and certain decorations are not accepted.

The public is invited to attend open houses on January 10 and January 12 to provide feedback on draft amendments to the Old Town Scottsdale Character Area Plan & Zoning Ordinance updates. These amendments have been drafted based on input from various stakeholders.

New gateway monuments designed by Moazam Khan of local studio MoD a+p will soon be placed around city boundaries to welcome residents and visitors.

The Scottsdale Police Department has issued a warning about fake parking tickets circulating within the community. These fraudulent tickets feature QR codes leading to payment sites but lack details about offenses.

Several public meetings are scheduled, including the Veterans Advisory Commission meeting on January 4 and the Historic Preservation Commission meeting on January 5.

Detour Company Theatre will present "The Wizard of Oz" at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts with free admission shows running from January 6-8. Additionally, several other events such as Arts and Tarts by the Scottsdale Sister Cities Association and the Civil War Roundtable lecture series are scheduled throughout January.

Ongoing events include the weekly Scottsdale ArtWalk every Thursday evening and the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market each Saturday morning through June.

Scottsdale offers various programs and services such as fitness classes at Club SAR Boxing and Fitness Center, Neighborhood College courses, senior center educational presentations, and lifeguard certification opportunities through StarGuard training.
