The Scottsdale Civic Center is set to reopen on January 22, marking the completion of the first phase of its renovation. The reopening coincides with the Arizona Concours d’Elegance collector car exhibition, a ticketed event. Additional events, both free and ticketed, are scheduled throughout the spring. The entire project is expected to be finished by late March, with a community celebration planned for April.
The renovation was funded primarily through a $33.5 million bond approved by Scottsdale voters in 2019. Construction began in October 2021, during which time the area was closed to the public.
Initially opening are two-thirds of the western section, including areas such as West Paseo from Old Town Scottsdale and Marshall Gardens. Pedestrian access will be available across Civic Center from Old Town and the Center for Performing Arts to City Hall's northern parking lot.
While fencing is being removed ahead of the reopening, some barricades will remain until after January 22 due to ongoing work by contractors and event producers. Full access will be granted on January 23, with library access becoming available on February 3.
The remaining renovations east of Civic Lawn—including City Hall Lagoons and Children’s Gardens—are expected to conclude in late March. These updates aim to provide an "event ready" venue using sustainable building practices developed through community input.
Upcoming events include:
- Arizona Concours d’Elegance on January 22: A judged exhibition featuring select collector cars.
- Arizona Indian Festival on February 4-5: A free festival showcasing traditional arts and crafts.
- Historic Old Town ESPN Main Street Tailgate from February 8-12: A tailgate party alongside ESPN’s Super Bowl LVII coverage.
- Sun & Sounds concerts every Sunday afternoon in March: Free concerts featuring local music.
- The Original Taste on April 22: A food and wine tasting event benefiting youth programs.
- Scottsdale Jazz Festival on April 29-30: Featuring jazz performances and food trucks.
