Scottsdale Water is set to host the One Water Brewing Showcase, an event highlighting beer crafted with ultra-purified, recycled water. Scheduled for November 4 and 5, 2022, the showcase will take place at the Scottsdale Waterfront during Canal Convergence. The event is open to the public at no cost, although attendees aged 21 and over can purchase a sample pack that includes tastings of each beer made with this specialized water. Paying participants will also receive souvenir sample mugs.
The initiative partners Scottsdale Water with several local breweries committed to water sustainability and conservation amid ongoing drought conditions and water shortages. Participating breweries include AZ Wilderness Brewing Co., Desert Monks Brewing Co., Fate Brewing Co., Four Peaks Brewing Co., Goldwater Brewing Co., North Mountain Brewing, O.H.S.O. Brewery, Uncle Bear’s Brewery, and Walter Station Brewery.
These breweries have been supplied with ultra-purified, recycled water from Scottsdale’s Advanced Water Treatment Facility. This facility is unique in Arizona as it is the only one permitted to offer such water for sampling purposes. The treatment process elevates recycled water to an A+ standard through ozonation, membrane ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis, and ultraviolet photolysis. The resulting water quality surpasses that of bottled water.
This innovative use of ultra-purified recycled water reflects Scottsdale's efforts to address current water supply challenges using technology. The city aims to establish this resource as a viable new source of community water in the future, pending state approval.
