The Scottsdale Police Department, in partnership with several organizations, is set to conduct DUI enforcement each weekend throughout the holiday season. This initiative, beginning on Friday, November 29, involves collaboration with the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Arizona Department of Transportation, and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

After Thanksgiving weekend, the Task Force will be active during evening and late-night hours every weekend until New Year's Day morning on January 1, 2025. The operation includes participation from law enforcement agencies such as Apache Junction Police, ASU Police, Chandler Police, the Department of Public Safety, Gilbert Police, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, Mesa Police, Phoenix Police, Queen Creek Police, Salt River Police and Tempe Police.

"The purpose of the DUI Task Force is to contact drivers who have made the disastrous decision to drive impaired and remove them from the roadway before they hurt others or themselves," according to a statement from the Scottsdale Police Department. This will involve saturation patrols across different areas of Scottsdale with various command post locations throughout the season.

The department emphasized that "DUIs are 100 percent preventable" and highlighted the potentially devastating consequences of DUI collisions. They urge individuals planning to consume alcohol or use recreational marijuana to arrange for a sober designated driver or consider alternatives like ride-sharing or taxi services.

"Please drive sober or find a safe alternate way home," urged authorities as part of their campaign against impaired driving this holiday season.
