With nearly all ballots tabulated by Maricopa County in Scottsdale’s July 30 primary election, the race for Scottsdale mayor will be a runoff between Lisa Borowsky and David Ortega. Additionally, two council seats remain open to be decided at the Nov. 5 general election.

Candidate Jan Dubauskas has been elected at the primary and will take office in January 2025. Two Council seats remain to be filled at the November 2024 general election. Tammy Caputi, Tom Durham, Adam Kwasman, and Maryann McAllen will advance to the November general election. The two with the most votes will take seats in January 2025.

Final results for the Scottsdale City Council race will be posted after final election results are provided by Maricopa County.

The Scottsdale City Council is scheduled to canvass the election results at its Aug. 13 City Council Meeting.

Monsoon activity is expected over the next few days. Monsoons often bring thunderstorms with heavy rain, flash flooding, and lightning, which can cause wildfires. Prepare now so you know what actions may be needed when a major storm rolls in. Look for Ready, Set, Go messages on social networks and in the news media: Be READY by always being prepared for potential emergencies; get SET by maintaining awareness of events that may force evacuation; and GO by evacuating immediately as instructed by emergency authorities.

The Scottsdale Salutes program honors local veterans. In November, the city will once again pay tribute to those who have served and continue to serve in the United States Armed Forces.

As part of this annual program, light pole banners featuring local veterans and military service members will be displayed in Old Town for two weeks in November.

All veterans, active-duty service members, and members of the National Guard and reserves who live in Scottsdale or have substantial ties to the community are eligible for nomination. This year’s eligibility has been expanded to include individuals whose connection to Scottsdale is demonstrated by working there for at least five years.

Visit ScottsdaleAZ.gov and search “Scottsdale Salutes” to nominate service members until Friday, Sept. 27. Those selected will be honored at a special community reception in November.

The recognition program was initiated by the Scottsdale Veterans Advisory Commission—a group of seven residents appointed by the City Council—to advise on veterans’ issues and raise awareness of veterans’ contributions within the community.
