Scottsdale is inviting its residents to contribute their thoughts on the city's Shade & Tree Plan, aimed at creating a greener and more sustainable urban environment. The plan focuses on strategic placement of shade structures and preservation of trees to reduce energy consumption, enhance property values, and foster environmental stewardship. Interested parties can learn more and provide their feedback at two meetings scheduled for May 15 and May 16.

The City Council will also be considering the Community Sustainability Plan in its meeting on May 21. This plan is an integral part of Scottsdale's commitment towards a sustainable future by providing creative solutions to environmental challenges. It outlines specific action steps for achieving long-term goals.

Scottsdale Water has launched its water rebate program for residents, homeowner associations, and businesses ahead of schedule due to increased demand. The program offers various rebates including residential grass removal rebate, residential in-ground pool or spa removal rebate, as well as rebates for installing water efficiency and monitoring technology.

The city is also making strides in improving pedestrian accessibility with the design of sidewalks along 68th Street from the Arizona Canal to just south of Camelback Road. These improvements are expected to increase safety and include asphalt improvement, restriping, and installation of new energy-efficient LED fixtures for streetlights.

A host of public meetings are lined up for the weeks of May 13 and May 20 where citizens can learn about city issues, projects, and activities. Additionally, numerous events such as Civil War Roundtable discussions, Pac-12 Baseball Tournament games, Memorial Day ceremonies among others are scheduled throughout May.

Various programs and services are also being offered by the city including the Scottsdale Mayor’s Youth Council for teens interested in local government and civic responsibility; street maintenance projects; National Prevention Week hosted by Youth and Family Services to combat substance abuse; among others.

Finally, Valley Metro will be hosting a town hall on new fare fees at Scottsdale Civic Center Library on May 18, where residents can ask questions and apply for reduced fare.
