City of Scottsdale issued the following announcement on Dec. 16.
Free COVID-19 vaccines are available Friday at Scottsdale Stadium. Get the first dose from 2-7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 17. Second doses will be scheduled after the first shot, and take place from 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan 11, or Wednesday, Jan. 12. The Moderna and Janssen COVID-19 vaccines are approved for those 18 and older. The Pfizer vaccine is authorized for those 5 and older. All three vaccination types will be available to all ages. Registration is not required; walk-ins are welcome.
Mayor set to weigh-in on city's successes and future at annual address. Scottsdale Mayor David D. Ortega will hold his “State of Scottsdale” address from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 E. Second St. The event is free to the public. Light refreshments will be provided. To attend, register online at ScottsdaleAZ.gov, search “state of the city.” Registration closes at 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14.
Openings are available on various boards, commissions and committees. Residents wanting to institute positive change are invited to apply to serve. Volunteers are needed for six boards, commissions and committees:
- Building Advisory Board of Appeals
- Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee
- Environmental Advisory Commission
- Historic Preservation Commission
- Loss Trust Fund Board
- Parks and Recreation Commission
COVID-19 UPDATE
COVID-19 by the numbers. Maricopa County has been tracking COVID-19 cases since Jan. 22, 2020. Review the latest numbers.
Scottsdale remains at high community transmission for 21st straight week. The city’s COVID-19 case rate has increased 23.3% to 215.5 cases per 100,000 residents (week of Nov. 20). High transmission is defined as greater than 100 cases per 100,000 people. According to Maricopa County’s Vaccine Dashboard, 72.1% of eligible Scottsdale residents have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination dose, and 66.8% are fully vaccinated. Getting vaccinated is your best defense against getting or spreading COVID. Attend a city vaccine site (see below) or find another location.
The city is hosting another series of free vaccine events at community centers. We’re offering the Pfizer vaccine (5 and older), and the Janssen (J & J) and Moderna (18 and older) vaccines:
- Horizon Community Center, 15444 N. 100th St.: 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Jan. 14 and 28, Feb. 11 and 25, and March 11 and 25.
- Eldorado Park and Community Center, 2311 N. Miller Road: 1-4 p.m. Jan. 17 and 31, Feb. 14 and 28, and March 14 and 28.
What’s the point of getting vaccinated when breakthrough cases are still possible? According to Arizona Department of Health Services, unvaccinated Arizonans were 15.2 times more likely to die than fully vaccinated people who got COVID-19. Unvaccinated people also were 3.9 times more likely to test positive for COVID-19 versus those who have been fully vaccinated. The bottom line: Getting vaccinations and boosters reduce your risk of getting COVID-19, and they dramatically reduce your risk of serious illness, hospitalization or death if you do test positive.

Operation Fix It helps Scottsdale homeowners with exterior improvements to their properties when they are unable due to financial/physical constraints. Landlords wanted! Rent to Housing Choice Voucher holders and receive timely and dependable payments from the city, your full rental payment, tenant background check and regular inspections of your unit, annual rent increases, contract signing incentive payment, and support and assistance with cost of damages, if needed. Properly place your brush and bulk for pickup. Separate your brush and bulk into two piles: one for green waste and one for everything else. The piles should not exceed 10 feet long by six feet wide by four feet tall. Please place the piles at least three feet from each other. In addition, place bulk and brush out for collection no sooner than nine days prior to the Monday of your scheduled collections week.
Most city offices will be closed Dec. 24, 25 and 31, and Jan. 1, for Christmas and New Year’s Day. Garbage and recycling collection will not be affected. Place your containers out by 5 a.m. the day of collection or the evening prior. 2021 brush/bulk and holiday schedule. 2022 brush/bulk and holiday schedule.
You can reserve a park ramada, community center room or library meeting space. The public can reserve space for private events and activities. If you are renting on behalf of an organization, business, nonprofit, company picnic or church function, you must submit your request through the Reservation Inquiry Form.
