Arizona House leader wants cities to stop creating own vaping legislation

Vaping

An Arizona state House GOP leader wants to put a stop to cities throughout the state enacting their own legislation and ordinances regulating vaping and e-cigarettes.

State Rep. T.J. Shope, the House speaker pro-tem, sent a letter to state Attorney General Mark Brnovich, asking his office to issue a formal opinion on the matter. Shope noted that while there are currently no state laws preventing cities from regulating these products on their own, there also is no legislation that specifically allows them to do this either.

Many cities are trying to pass legislation making it illegal for people under the age of 21 to buy and use electronic smoking products. Shope told the Arizona Capitol Times that he is not trying to force a legal battle over the issue. Instead, he said he is trying to create consistent policies and regulations throughout the state for vapers and manufacturers.
