The city of Scottsdale has announced the completion of renovations on the tennis courts at Comanche Park, which suffered significant damage from a microburst. The two courts have been rebuilt and are now accessible to the public.
Instead of choosing temporary fixes, the city decided to improve the courts using post-tension concrete. This method reduces cracks and significantly increases the lifespan of the courts, ensuring they last over 25 years. Renovations also included upgraded LED lighting, new fencing and windscreens, replacement park signage, and repaired backstops.
Nick Molinari, senior director, commented on the project, "The storm damage was devastating, but it gave us an opportunity to rebuild the courts better than before." He added, “These upgrades at Comanche Park ensure residents and visitors have access to high-quality tennis courts for years to come.”
Funding for the project came through a combination of insurance claim proceeds, the city's annual court repair budget, and park amenity capital improvement funds. The upgrade is part of Scottsdale's broader efforts to improve its tennis amenities. The city manages 51 tennis courts, with 20 located in neighborhood parks, and six of these have been upgraded using post-tension concrete.
Scottsdale offers various tennis lessons and leagues at the Indian School and Scottsdale Ranch Park tennis centers. Players of all skill levels can seek professional instruction and engage in organized play throughout the year.
