Scottsdale hosts park celebrations in collaboration with NRPA this July

Scottsdale Parks and Recreation, in collaboration with the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), is set to celebrate National Park and Recreation Month this July. The city, known for its outdoor recreation amenities such as tennis, biking, swimming, sports, and indoor activities, will host a variety of events under this year's theme "Where Community Grows."

The NRPA highlights the importance of parks and recreation professionals in fostering community growth. Residents are encouraged to share their experiences with parks and recreation on social media using #WhereCommunityGrows and #ScottsdalePlays.

Several events are planned throughout July:

- The "July Dance: Adaptive Services Star Spangled Spectacular" takes place on Saturday, July 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Adaptive Services Center. Designed for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, it features a live DJ. Entry costs $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents.

- On Sunday, July 2 from 4 to 9 p.m., "Red, White and Choo Choo" will be held at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park. Scottsdale Mayor David D. Ortega will proclaim July as Park and Recreation month. Tickets are priced at $15 for those aged 13 and older, $5 for children aged 3 to 12, while those two years old or younger can enter free.

- "Rainbow Stained Glass," a guided painting session at Horizon Community Center on Saturday, July 8 from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., offers participants a chance to create colorful art pieces. Fees are $19 for residents and $29 for non-residents.

- Families can enjoy evening swims during the "Sunset Swim" events scheduled on Friday, July 14 at McDowell Mountain Ranch Aquatic Center and Saturday, July 22 at Eldorado Aquatic Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Prices vary based on residency status.

- The educational session "New Arizona Residents – Tax and Trust Laws" will be hosted on Thursdays, July 20 & 27 from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. at Horizon Community Center. It covers topics like community property laws in Arizona with registration fees set at $14 for residents and $21 for non-residents.

- Parks and Recreation Professionals Day falls on Friday, July 21 encouraging visits to local parks or centers.

- A "Safety Luau" event will occur on Sunday, July 30 from 4 to 9:30 p.m. at Eldorado Aquatic Center featuring water safety lessons alongside entertainment including Disney’s Lilo & Stitch movie screening. This event is free of charge.
