The City Auditor's Office engaged Berry Dunn McNeil & Parker, LLC (BerryDunn) to conduct a Ransomware Readiness Assessment audit. The objective was to evaluate the city's ability to prevent, identify, respond to, and recover from ransomware incidents. The assessment involved reviewing cybersecurity controls and conducting table-top exercises to test the city's preparedness for such events.

BerryDunn concluded that the city has foundational elements in place to effectively detect and respond to ransomware or cyber-related incidents. However, the assessment highlighted 23 areas with low to moderate risk ratings where improvements were suggested. These recommendations included developing and enhancing response plans, security policies, communication paths, and personnel responsibilities during an event.
