Upcoming events and initiatives in Scottsdale for November

Maricopa County voters are reminded to cast their ballots in the general election. The county provides "vote anywhere" Vote Centers, which will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day. Election results will be available after 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The city of Scottsdale is organizing several events for Veterans Day. A commemoration event featuring combat veteran and Blackhawk pilot Rose Mattie will take place at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park on Friday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Scottsdale's Civic Center Library will host Larry Ernst, a former fighter pilot with over 100 combat missions under his belt, on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 5 p.m.

The Scottsdale Salutes program honors veterans through banners displayed along Drinkwater Boulevard until Nov. 21.

Most city offices will close for Veterans Day; however, recycling and garbage collections remain unaffected.

Mayor Ortega has proclaimed November as National American Indian Heritage Month in Scottsdale, recognizing the contributions of indigenous peoples.

Public meetings scheduled include the Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 9, and others throughout the week.

Canal Convergence continues at the Scottsdale Waterfront through Nov. 13 with light-based public art installations.

Various cultural events are also planned across the city including performances by Alan Cumming and Vienna Boys Choir at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts in November.

Residents are encouraged to attend programs offered by McDowell Sonoran Conservancy focusing on nature and environmental education throughout November.

Other community services such as Club SAR fitness center offer various membership options while Neighborhood College provides educational programs this month.

Scottsdale Fire Department advises residents to prepare their fireplaces as colder weather sets in to prevent home heating fires.

Lastly, residents are reminded to leave no trace when visiting natural preserves during the holiday season to protect wildlife and maintain natural spaces clean from litter or decorations.
