Starting today, Chaparral Road is closed at the Indian Bend Wash, just east of Hayden Road, through approximately Sept. 1. This project will create a new pedestrian underpass along the Indian Bend multiuse path on the east side of Hayden Road under Chaparral Road. Adding this underpass aims to reduce bike and pedestrian traffic across Chaparral Road, increasing safety and allowing more green light time for vehicles.

Work takes place from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasional night and weekend work will be necessary to install a waterline being built in conjunction with this project. During the Chaparral closure, McDonald Drive or Indian School Road can be used as alternate routes to and from Loop 101 (Pima Freeway). Additionally, the Indian Bend Wash multiuse path on the east side of Hayden Road is also closed. Access the path on the west side of Hayden Road between Camelback and Jackrabbit roads.

Monsoon Awareness Week is scheduled for June 9-15; monsoon season runs from June 15 to Sept. 30. Monsoons often bring thunderstorms with heavy rain, flash flooding, and lightning which can cause wildfires. The National Weather Service has provided additional resources including videos and fact sheets in both English and Spanish.
