Scottsdale's upcoming primary election on July 30 is drawing near, with important deadlines for voters to keep in mind. As stated by election officials, the voter registration deadline is July 1, and early voting will commence on July 3. Those voting by mail are reminded to send back their early ballots by July 23, with the last day for requesting an early ballot being July 19. For Independent or Party Not Declared voters, requesting a party or city-only ballot is necessary to participate in the primary election. The process for selecting ballots is detailed, with mail-in voters receiving a postcard in early May and in-person voters being provided with the ballot of their choice.

Regarding the November 5 General Election, Scottsdale voters will have the opportunity to consider two items referred by the City Council. These items include a city proposal for replacing and reducing an expiring sales tax, as well as an adjustment to the city's state-imposed spending limitation. Further information about these ballot items and the argument filing process can be found at Scottsdale.Vote.

In efforts to enhance Scottsdale's environmental sustainability, the city has introduced its first Community Sustainability Plan, open for public feedback until April 30. The plan aims to improve the city's natural environment and economic vitality through innovative approaches in various areas such as energy, water, waste, air quality, and heat management. The draft, developed over the past two years, aligns with the city's long-term goals and emphasizes environmental stewardship.

Additionally, the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has announced overnight closures on the Pima Freeway on April 25-26 for pavement striping. The closures will affect specific areas, and access to businesses and local streets will be maintained during this period. These closures are part of ADOT's ongoing project to enhance Loop 101 between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road. Interested individuals are encouraged to subscribe to project updates on ADOT's website for more information.

In other news, Scottsdale is gearing up for the Jazz Festival: Blues and Brews, featuring prominent artists like Norman Brown, Donald Harrison, and Nayo Jones. Attendees can enjoy music, food, and a beer garden while experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of the festival.

For those interested in city programs and services, the opportunity to register for Scottsdale Parks and Recreation spring programs has commenced. Additionally, a Prescription Drug Take Back event is scheduled for April 27, allowing residents to safely dispose of unwanted or expired medications. The city also offers educational seminars like the Neurodiversity Awareness seminar, focusing on promoting understanding and inclusion in the workplace.

As Scottsdale continues to evolve and prioritize sustainability, community engagement, and cultural enrichment, residents are encouraged to stay informed and actively participate in the city's initiatives and events to contribute to the overall growth and well-being of the community.
