With the candidate field set for Scottsdale’s July 30 primary election, voters should take note of important deadlines coming soon. Three candidates are vying for the mayoral position in Scottsdale, including Lisa Borowsky, Linda Milhaven, and David ”Dave” Ortega. Additionally, there are nine candidates running for three open City Council seats, namely Tammy Caputi, Stephen H. Casares, Jan Dubauskas, Tom Durham, Mason Gates, Adam Kwasman, Justin Laos, Robert “Bob” Lettieri, and Maryann McAllen.

In the upcoming election, if no candidate secures a majority of votes, the top two mayoral candidates and the six council candidates with the highest votes will advance to the Nov. 5 general election.

Regarding the November ballot, the City Council has proposed two items for Scottsdale voters to consider - a city proposal to replace and reduce an expiring sales tax, and an adjustment to the city's state-imposed spending limitation. Voters have the opportunity to file arguments supporting or opposing these measures, which will be included in the official election publicity pamphlet. The deadline for filing arguments is 5 p.m. on Aug. 7, with a $100 fee applying to submissions.

For those interested in learning more about the candidates and proposed ballot measures, detailed information is available at Scottsdale.Vote. Additionally, there are Frequently Asked Questions documents for the ballot items, including the 2025 Scottsdale 0.15% Sales Tax Questions and Answers (PDF) and the Permanent Base Adjustment Questions and Answers (PDF).
