A tragic aircraft accident occurred at Scottsdale Airport this afternoon, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. The incident took place at 2:39 p.m. when a Learjet 35A, arriving from Austin, veered off the runway and collided with a parked Gulfstream 200. Initial reports indicate that the Learjet’s left main landing gear failed upon landing, causing the collision.
Emergency personnel from Scottsdale Fire Station 609 and airport operations staff responded to the scene within one minute of the collision. One individual was pronounced dead, while three others were injured and transported to Valley hospitals for treatment. Another person declined medical assistance.
Scottsdale Airport will remain closed until further notice as the National Transportation Safety Board takes over the investigation into the accident.
“I am extremely grateful to the first responders and airport operations staff on scene today for their swift action and service,” stated Scottsdale Aviation Director Gary P. Mascaro. “We offer our deepest condolences to those affected by this tragedy.”
Authorities are advising the public to avoid the area as investigations continue. Additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
