Cassandra Weinlein has been appointed as the Vice President of Field Government and Public Affairs for Cox Communications' West Region. She succeeds Chanelle Hawken, who has transitioned to the role of Market Vice President for San Diego.

In her new position, Weinlein will lead government and public affairs strategies across the West Region. Her responsibilities include overseeing initiatives in government affairs, community relations, media relations, and competitive positioning. She is set to become a key member of the West Region Senior Team.

Weinlein joined Cox Communications in early 2018 and has since worked on advancing Cox's interests with government entities. Recognized by The Women in Telecommunications (WICT) Network as a Rising Leader in 2021 and included in SD Metro’s 40 Under 40 list, she is known for her strategic thinking and understanding of policy implications. As Senior Director of Public and Government Affairs since 2023, Weinlein monitored policies affecting Cox in California and Nevada while enhancing community engagement.

“Cassandra has a proven track record of bringing together unique partners, fostering collaboration, and finding innovative solutions," said Sam Attisha, Cox’s senior vice president and region manager. He added that Weinlein "will be instrumental in advancing Cox's interests across our West Region markets while maintaining our strong community presence and positive corporate reputation."

Weinlein brings extensive experience from local, state, and federal government roles prior to joining Cox. She served as director of policy for various political figures including a San Diego City Councilmember, a California State Senator, and a United States Congressman. Her work focused on bipartisan partnerships to implement policy changes throughout Southern California.

In addition to her professional endeavors, Weinlein actively supports arts organizations in San Diego. She serves on the Board of The Old Globe Theater as well as its Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. Furthermore, she is involved with My Voice in the Arts program through the San Diego Opera aimed at promoting arts education among K-12 students.

Weinlein holds bachelor's degrees in political science/government and sociology from UC San Diego. In 2017 she earned a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from San Diego State University online.

Cox Communications describes itself as America's largest private broadband company operating fiber-powered networks across more than 30 states. It provides connections along with advanced IT services to nearly seven million homes nationwide under its parent company Cox Enterprises founded by Governor James M. Cox back in1898.
