Scottsdale prepares festive events lineup while unveiling new sports complex

The city of Scottsdale is set to unveil the Reata Sports Complex in spring 2024, featuring five lighted fields and additional amenities. This project was approved by voters during the 2019 bond election.

Scottsdale Public Library will host a free family event, the Ultimate Play Date, on Saturday, December 9, at Scottsdale Civic Center. The event will include interactive activities for children and teens from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendees can enjoy performances by local school music groups, face painting, balloon animals, food vendors, and a mimosa garden for adults. The band Smashed will perform from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Residents can engage with city matters by attending public meetings scheduled this week. These include the City Council Regular Meeting on Monday, December 4; Parks and Trails Subcommittee on Tuesday morning; another City Council session Tuesday evening; City Council Special Meeting on Wednesday afternoon; Veterans Advisory Commission later that day; and Development Review Board on Thursday.

The Scottsdazzle holiday celebration continues throughout December in Old Town Scottsdale with various events planned for this week. Highlights include the Gold Palette ArtWalk on Thursday evening featuring holiday-themed art across 35 galleries, and the Miracle of the Roses Pageant on Saturday at Old Adobe Mission Church.

A film screening chronicling Lloyd Kiva New's legacy as an innovator will take place Thursday evening at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts followed by a fashion showcase at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West.

Other upcoming events include a senior art show at Via Linda Senior Center on Friday night and Hometown Happy Hour discussing Thunderbird Fields history on Monday, December 11.

The Arizona National American Quarter Horse Association’s show is scheduled for December 14-17 at WestWorld. Additionally, the Scottsdale Concert Band will perform a free holiday concert on Friday, December 15.

Ongoing activities in Scottsdale feature McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park's Holiday Lights through January 7 and weekly ArtWalks every Thursday evening.

Residents are encouraged to participate in programs such as "Shred It" document disposal and Electronics Recycling Day both happening Saturday morning. The Family Resource Center offers support services for families with young children.

The Maricopa Association of Governments invites residents to help develop plans to reduce climate pollution with an open house event set for Saturday, December 16.
