Scottsdale has increased its efforts to combat heat-related deaths by adding new hydration and cooling stations throughout the city. Maricopa County recorded 425 heat-associated deaths in 2022, marking a 25% rise from the previous year. To address this, Scottsdale has introduced four hydration stations at senior centers and community centers, alongside cooling stations available at city libraries.

The city collaborates with nonprofits to provide day relief centers offering refuge, meals, water, showers, and additional services. These are located at South Scottsdale Presbyterian Church on Mondays and Vista del Camino Community Center on Fridays.

Scottsdale's Capital Improvement Program is facing financial adjustments due to inflation impacts on construction projects approved in November 2019. The city's budget for Fiscal Year 2023/24 proposes using approximately $54 million in one-time funding to accommodate these increased costs.

In recognition of Teacher Appreciation Week from May 8-12, the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is offering discounted tickets to educators for various shows.

Several public meetings are scheduled for early May, including sessions of the Human Relations Commission and Planning Commission.

Historian Garry Adelman will present a lecture titled "Battlefield Preservation Extravaganza" at the Civil War Roundtable event on May 16 at Scottsdale Civic Center Library. Additionally, celebrations of the Indian Bend Wash flood control project are planned throughout May with events such as a Dive-In Movie screening and family activities at Vista del Camino Park.

The city's Youth and Family Services Behavioral Health department is participating in National Prevention Week with events focused on substance use prevention. Other community activities include a "Shred It" event for document disposal and food bank restocking efforts through the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
