Scottsdale prepares for Memorial Day closures; announces public events and board openings

Most city offices and facilities in Scottsdale will be closed on Monday, May 29, in observance of Memorial Day. However, recycling and garbage collection services will continue as usual. Residents are advised to place their containers out by 5 a.m. on the day of collection or the evening before.

A Memorial Day ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on May 29 at the Scottsdale Memorial for the Fallen, located next to the Chaplain sculpture on the Civic Center Memorial Lawn. The event is organized by local veterans organizations to honor those who lost their lives in military service.

Scottsdale has been granted membership in the Organization of World Heritage Cities due to its connection with Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This acknowledgment highlights Scottsdale's role in international efforts to preserve cultural heritage.

The city is seeking volunteers for various boards and commissions, including one opening each on the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee, Historic Preservation Commission, Library Board, and Tourism Development Commission (for a Scottsdale hotelier). Interested residents must apply online by June 1.

Public meetings scheduled include sessions for the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee on May 22 and both the Neighborhood Advisory Commission and Planning Commission on May 24.

Residents can participate in Spring Arizona Restaurant Week until May 28 or attend the second annual Pac-12 Baseball Tournament from May 23-27 at Scottsdale Stadium. Additionally, “Toss on the Wash” will take place on May 25 at Vista del Camino Park to celebrate Indian Bend Wash.

The Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts has announced its new season lineup with tickets now available. Meanwhile, June Days offers daily activities throughout Old Town Scottsdale starting next month.

Scottsdale Public Library's Summer Reading Program begins June 1. Young professionals are invited to an event discussing sustainable growth plans for Scottsdale at Western Spirit: Scottsdale's Museum of the West on June 1.

Traffic updates include changes around Happy Valley Road due to ongoing roadworks. A high ozone pollution advisory is currently active; residents with respiratory sensitivities should take precautions outdoors.

The CompTIA Public Technology Institute has recognized Scottsdale’s Short-term Rental Resource Center in its Solutions Awards for innovative use of information technology solutions within communities across America.

Finally, there is an open position for a Public Works Inspector I in Scottsdale offering various benefits including paid holidays and health insurance options.
