Scottsdale approves water deal; Mayor proclaims Hispanic Heritage Month

The Scottsdale City Council has taken steps to address water supply issues in the Rio Verde Foothills area by approving an intergovernmental agreement with the Rio Verde Foothills Standpipe District. This district was created following Arizona Senate Bill 1432, which became law in June. The agreement ensures that Scottsdale's water resources will not be used and that costs are fully recovered for the city's residents.

Mayor David D. Ortega has proclaimed September 15 to October 15 as Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrating the contributions of Hispanic Americans who have shaped Scottsdale.

Several public meetings are scheduled in Scottsdale this week, including sessions for the Human Relations Commission and Planning Commission. Residents are encouraged to attend or listen to these meetings to stay informed about city projects and activities.

Scottsdale is hosting various events this month. The Arabian National Breeder Finals will take place from September 13-16 at WestWorld, offering a showcase for breeders and Arabian horse enthusiasts. Additionally, the United Diversity Business Summit on September 14 will provide networking opportunities and resources for business growth through diversity and inclusion.

For those interested in shopping experiences, the Vintage Market Junk in the Trunk event will feature over 160 vendors from across the country from September 15-17 at WestWorld.

Educational programs such as Neighborhood College are available, covering topics like short-term rentals and estate planning mistakes. The Mental Health Matters Conference on September 30 aims to support youth mental health with keynote speaker Brandon Lee.

Traffic alerts have been issued due to road improvement projects affecting McKellips Road and Chaparral Road near Loop 101. Additionally, improvements are planned for Carefree Highway between Cave Creek and Scottsdale roads.

The Scottsdale Police Via Linda District Station is temporarily closed for construction; alternative stations remain open for police matters.

A job opening is available for an ADA/Title VI Coordinator within the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. Responsibilities include overseeing ADA compliance and resolving complaints related to public accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
