Scottsdale hosts diverse events in June including Juneteenth celebration

The city of Scottsdale is hosting a variety of events and activities this June, with highlights including the month-long celebration known as June Days. This event showcases Old Town's unique offerings through wine tastings, art exhibits, crafting workshops, live performances, and family-oriented outings. One notable event this week is "Breakfast at the Market," held at the Old Town Scottsdale Farmers Market every Saturday morning through June. Visitors can enjoy breakfast foods from various vendors while shopping to music.

Scottsdale will also host a free Community Juneteenth Celebration on June 17, presented by Mayo Clinic. The event will take place from 2-8 p.m. at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and Scottsdale Civic Center. It will feature culture, entertainment, music, wellness presentations, and career opportunities. Parking and admission are free.

A public hearing regarding Scottsdale’s proposed property tax levy is scheduled for June 13 at Scottsdale City Hall. The city plans to increase its primary property tax levy by $2,274,290 due to tort liability claim payments and a statutory adjustment.

Former Scottsdale Mayor William “Bill” Schrader has passed away at age 93. His contributions to the city spanned nearly eight decades in various roles such as councilman and mayor.

Public meetings are being held on several topics including the Protect and Preserve Scottsdale Task Force meeting on May 31 and the McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission meeting on June 1.

Ongoing events include McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park’s Summer Concert Series on Sundays through June 25 and the weekly Scottsdale ArtWalk on Thursdays.

Programs like the “All Together Now” Summer Reading Program offered by the Scottsdale Public Library encourage reading over summer break with prizes for participants who read during this period.

The city is also processing short-term rental applications with licenses issued for most submissions so far this year. There are currently openings available on four boards and commissions for residents interested in volunteering their time to serve their community.

Additionally, Maricopa County seeks input from residents about how well Scottsdale maintains community health standards through an anonymous survey open until June 21.
