The Arizona Association of Chiefs of Police (AACOP) has recognized Scottsdale Police Chief Jeff Walther as Arizona’s "Chief of the Year." This award acknowledges his commitment to the community, leadership within his organization, and dedication to AACOP's mission. Ken Cost, a board member of AACOP and Mesa Police Chief, stated, “Chief Jeff Walther embodies servant leadership. He is someone who cares deeply for his community and for every one of his employees. Walther in a short time has moved his already progressive department into an even higher level and has done so by being inclusive of the communities needs and the members of his department. He works seamlessly with other city staff and has built positive relationships over the years to achieve high-level goals for the city and the police department.”
In COVID-19 updates, Scottsdale remains at high community transmission levels for 28 consecutive weeks. The city's case rate decreased by 14.4% to 1,192.7 cases per 100,000 residents as of January 22nd. Maricopa County reports that 75.2% of eligible Scottsdale residents have received at least one vaccine dose, while 69.6% are fully vaccinated.
The city continues its efforts in providing testing and vaccinations through partnerships with Vincere Center Centers and Maricopa County Public Health Department at various locations including Granite Reef Senior Center, Mustang Library, and Scottsdale Community College.
Western Week in Old Town Scottsdale offers events such as Gold Palette ArtWalk on February 3rd, Hashknife Pony Express Arrival on February 4th, Parada del Sol Parade on February 5th followed by Trails End Festival in Historic Old Town District featuring live entertainment.
Additional events include Arizona Native Edible Experience on February 5th at Western Spirit: Scottsdale Museum of the West kicking off Arizona Indian Festival which runs through February 6th.
Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will host The Dirty Dozen Brass Band along with Nathan Williams & Zydeco Cha-Chas on February 11th.
Residents can participate in programs like document shredding or electronics recycling collection scheduled for February 5th.
A community survey is underway as part of developing a Tourism Strategic Plan aimed at sustainable growth opportunities enhancing quality life aspects for both residents & visitors alike.
