Scottsdale City Council approves initiatives addressing housing insecurity

Scottsdale's city budget for the fiscal year 2023/24 focuses on safe neighborhoods, parks, and community services. The city's budget book and annual reports are available to the public.

The Scottsdale City Council has approved plans to address housing insecurity with temporary bridge housing and up to 28 affordable units at the Paiute Neighborhood Center. The bridge housing program offers temporary lodging for those displaced in Scottsdale without taking U.S. immigration referrals through Title 42. Last year, 120 individuals were assisted, a number expected to be matched this year.

The Residence at Paiute will provide studio and two-bedroom units at low or no cost for seniors and persons with disabilities, along with case-managed temporary bridge housing.

Netflix released a documentary series titled "Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones" on August 30, ahead of a community kickoff for Blue Zones Project Scottsdale. The series explores regions known for longevity due to factors like diet and lifestyle.

The McDowell Sonoran Preserve's month is being commemorated with various activities starting from October 3. This preserve covers one-third of Scottsdale's land area today.

Upcoming public meetings include sessions by the Planning Commission and others from September 27-28. These meetings provide insights into city projects and activities.

McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park’s Railfair will take place on September 30 - October 1, featuring train displays and exhibits. Admission is free, but some rides have fees.

The Scottsdale Civic Center remodel will be celebrated with over 70 activities from October 3 - November 22 across Old Town Scottsdale.

GAIN (Getting Arizona Involved with Neighborhoods) promotes neighborhood safety and communication on October 14; registration closes October 3 for block parties.

A new underpass connecting segments of Mountain View Trail has opened at Shea Boulevard enhancing non-motorized connectivity in the area.

Scottsdale libraries will observe "Banned Books Week" from October 1-7 displaying previously banned books highlighting censorship issues.

Public service contact information includes a call center line for reporting issues via Scottsdale EZ among other resources provided by the city.
