Scottsdale's Community Juneteenth Celebration is set to return this year, presented by Mayo Clinic. The event, organized by the city of Scottsdale and Scottsdale Arts, will take place from 2 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 17. It will feature culture, entertainment, music, wellness activities, presentations, and career opportunities.

The celebration is open to all and will be held at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts and Scottsdale Civic Center located at 7380 E. Second Street. Attendees will also have free access to the nearby Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art.

Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in Texas and is recognized as one of the oldest African American holidays in the United States. This year's event will include a public art exhibit highlighting the 900 days between the Emancipation Proclamation and when enslaved people in Texas were informed of their freedom.

"Juneteenth is the highlight of June Days, becoming one of Scottsdale’s largest Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion events," stated Mayor David Ortega. "We welcome people throughout the Valley to come to Scottsdale to celebrate and support an inclusive, safe environment where the rights of everyone are protected."

The expanded celebration is made possible through sponsors such as Mayo Clinic along with HonorHealth, Fry’s Food Stores, PetSmart, Renewal by Anderson, Scottsdale Fire Fighters Association, and SRP.

Parking and admission are free for attendees who wish to learn more about this significant holiday.

In addition to being a celebrated event in Scottsdale, Juneteenth has been established as a city holiday following an amendment approved by the Scottsdale City Council in 2022. The holiday will be observed on Monday, June 19 without affecting garbage or recycling collection services.
