In a recent report presented by engineering consultants Mead & Hunt, Scottsdale Airport's efforts towards sustainability were highlighted. The airport has been recognized for its commitment to environmental responsibility, with several projects contributing to significant energy savings and waste reduction.

Since 2018, three federally funded projects have marked substantial progress in the airport's sustainability initiatives:

The Runway Electrical project has successfully avoided using 8,420 kilowatt hours annually and diverted 2.5 tons of waste from landfills. "This is equivalent to greenhouse gas emissions avoided by diverting 2.5 tons of waste from the landfill to a recycling facility."

The Runway 3-21 Rehabilitation project resulted in savings of 4,130 gallons of gas. "These savings are equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from the energy usage of 4.6 homes for an entire year."

From 2018 to 2023, taxiway lights and signs were replaced with LED lights, avoiding the use of 30,240 kilowatt hours annually. "This reduction in electricity consumption is equivalent to the greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling 930 bags of waste instead of them being sent to a landfill."

Overall, since 2018, the airport has reduced its electricity use by over 50%.

Future projects such as the Perimeter Road Rehabilitation, Airport Drive Rehabilitation, and Taxiway 4 Rehabilitation scheduled for this year aim at enhancing energy efficiency and incorporating other environmentally friendly technologies.
