State Rep. Joseph Chaplik (R-Scottsdale) said the Arizona Legislature should "immediately move to impeach Kris Mayes" after the House Executive Oversight Committee released findings on her actions while in office. Chaplik made the comments on X on May 29.

"Kris Mayes is clearly abusing her power," Chaplik said in the post. "I agree with the conclusions of my fellow caucus members and we should immediately move to impeach Kris Mayes in the Arizona House of Representatives. Her unethical and reckless conduct is a danger to all Arizonans."

State Rep. Jaqueline Parker, who serves as chairman of the House Ad Hoc Committee on Executive Oversight (CEO), announced the completion of the committee's investigation into Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes. The 102 page report showed that "Mayes has abused power, neglected legal duties, and committed malfeasance in office," according to a post from Arizona House Republicans on X

Key findings of the report include Mayes' lack of defense for state laws in court, threats issued by Mayes against farmers in regards to ballot measures on groundwater usage, attacks against her political opponents, and an unwillingness to supply the Committee with information and explanations during their investigation.

“I am deeply frustrated and disappointed by Attorney General Mayes’ lack of cooperation with our requests for more information and records concerning the many allegations that came to the Committee’s attention," Chairman Parker said. "I hope all House members will thoroughly review the Committee’s report and findings and agree to impeach Attorney General Mayes and consider other measures outlined in our report to prevent future weaponization of the AG’s office.”

Chaplik has served as an Arizona State Representative for District 3 since 2023. He is running for reelection in the district and will appear on the July 30 Republican primary ballot. He serves as the vice-chair for the House Executive Oversight Committee.

Previously, Chaplik worked as the vice president of XO Communications and Allegiance Telecom before becoming president of Joseph Bernard Investment Real Estate.

Chaplik lives in Scottsdale with his wife and two children.
