FIREWISE: How to Protect Your Home From Wildfire on November 17, 2022

A history of Wildfire in the "Mega Fire" era in the United States, and how a comprehensive Firewise program works to protect homes in Scottsdale from ignition. Presenter: Captain Steve Hunter, Scottsdale Fire Department. Captain Hunter is a 35 year veteran of the Scottsdale Fire Department. He spent most of his career as an Engine Co. Captain/Paramedic fighting house fires, wildland fires and running medical calls. Seven years ago Captain Hunter helped establish the first Firewise program in the city of Scottsdale. The city now boasts 15 Firewise Communities with more signing up every day. Captain Hunter’s current assignment is the Community Risk Reduction Captain at SFD where he oversees the Firewise program and responds as the on duty Fire Investigator.

This program is in collaboration with the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy.
