Republican State Representative Beverly Pingerelli has backed a new Arizona law aimed at minimizing classroom distractions from cellphones. The legislation, known as HB2484, is designed to restore discipline and focus in classrooms by reducing student access to devices that may hinder education.

Representative Pingerelli stated, “Education requires attention, and attention is exactly what today’s students are being robbed of by addictive devices and endless scrolling.” She further emphasized, “We’ve drawn a clear line: Arizona classrooms are for learning, not TikTok. Teachers can finally reclaim their classrooms, and parents can feel confident their kids are actually focused on school—not their screens.”

The law mandates schools to implement policies that regulate student internet use, restrict access to social media platforms, and limit cellphone usage during school hours. Exceptions are allowed for emergencies, medical needs, and teacher-directed academic activities.

This initiative aligns with the House Republican Majority Plan aiming to enhance educational results, reinforce student concentration, and empower parents. Pingerelli mentioned, “Teachers shouldn’t have to compete with YouTube and Instagram to be heard. HB2484 refocuses kids on learning, empowering parents, and backing up teachers.”
