Scottsdale partners with college to expand pickleball access

Scottsdale has announced a partnership with Scottsdale Community College (SCC) to expand pickleball access in response to resident demand. This initiative allows free drop-in play at SCC's six pickleball courts, located west of the Fitness Wellness Center, available daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., excluding holidays and campus closures. Instruction-based programs will be offered for a nominal fee, with further details to be provided on SCC’s website.

Resident feedback during the Parks and Recreation Master Plan process highlighted pickleball as one of the top five desired recreation programs. The partnership aims to increase opportunities for residents to engage in regular play and learning.

In other city news, Scottsdale will celebrate Founders Day on February 25th at the Little Red Schoolhouse, commemorating Chaplain Winfield and Helen Scott for their contributions to education. Mayor Borowsky will issue a proclamation, with community historian Joan Fudala, Citizen Advisor Bruce Wall, and state historian Marshall Trimble scheduled to speak.

The Diamonds in the Desert exhibit opens on February 26th at Scottsdale’s Little Red School House Museum. It highlights local high school baseball achievements and features players like Hall of Fame pitcher Jim Palmer and Atlanta Braves' top pick Cam Caminiti.

Spring training is underway at Scottsdale Stadium, home of the San Francisco Giants during Cactus League action. Free trolley service is available for attendees during home games.

Additionally, Blue Zones Project Scottsdale offers a workshop on March 1st focused on making healthy grocery choices efficiently. The U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West will perform that same day at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.

The SunPunchers conclude their residency with Dark Sky Journey on March 1st, exploring themes related to night skies through music. On March 2nd, Pick & Holler and The Melroses perform at Scottsdale Civic Center.

Scottsdale Concert Band presents "To Boldly Go" on March 5th at SCC amphitheater featuring space-themed music including pieces from Star Trek and E.T.

Ongoing activities include weekly ArtWalks showcasing visual art from over 100 galleries in Scottsdale.

Upcoming road closures are planned due to Loop 101 widening projects affecting Shea Boulevard and nearby areas from February 28th through March 3rd.

Feedback is sought for WestWorld’s strategic plan via an online survey conducted by Keen Independent research institute. The city also advertises a police officer position emphasizing community policing strategies as part of its recruitment efforts.
