The Scottsdale Police Department has received two grants from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety for the fiscal year 2025. The funding is aimed at enhancing safety and education on local roadways.
The Speed Awareness Grant, identified as #2025-PTS-057 and amounting to $60,000, will support efforts to educate the public about the dangers associated with excessive speed and reckless driving.
In addition, the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Grant, labeled #2025-405g-011 with a total of $55,000, is designated for promoting safety and enforcement related to pedestrian and bicycle traffic across Scottsdale. This includes areas such as the entertainment district.
The department acknowledges that serious and fatal traffic collisions are a persistent concern. "Serious and fatal traffic collisions have consistently remained an area of concern for our department," a statement noted. The grants are expected to help address these issues by focusing on speed awareness as well as pedestrian and bicycle safety.
"Ultimately, funding and awarding these grants will help us reach our department’s goal of proactively decreasing the number of collisions on our roadways and increasing community safety," the statement added.
