Scottsdale promotes sustainability during Water Awareness Month

April is Water Awareness Month, and Scottsdale residents are encouraged to maintain water-efficient properties. This initiative aims to reduce water waste and conserve energy, ultimately lowering water and sewer costs. Residents can take advantage of a free outdoor water efficiency check from Scottsdale Water by calling 480-312-5650. Additionally, the WaterSmart portal provides homeowners with detailed hourly water usage data.

The city is considering amending the zoning map to designate Scottsdale City Hall as part of a historic property district. Public meetings on this proposal will be held on April 12 and 13 at One Civic Center. The Historic Preservation Commission recognizes City Hall's potential historic significance due to its Pueblo Revival architectural style designed by Bennie Gonzales in 1968.

Scottsdale Earth Week begins on April 22 with a Green Expo at the North Corporation Yard. Events include volunteer road cleanups, nature walks, an edible garden presentation, and a xeriscape garden tour. The week concludes with a tree-planting ceremony on Arbor Day, April 28.

Public meetings scheduled for early April include the Board of Adjustment, Paths and Trails Subcommittee, Veterans Advisory Commission, City Council, Historic Preservation Commission, and McDowell Sonoran Preserve Commission.

Cultural events in Scottsdale feature lectures on Navajo weaving history and Civil War topics. Mark Winer will discuss Navajo textiles at Western Spirit Museum on April 6. Lesley Gordon will lecture on Civil War history at the Civic Center Library on April 18.

Community activities include "Bunnanza," an Old West-themed event with live music and egg hunts on April 8; Entertainment Extravaganza showcasing senior talent on April 13; and the Gold Palette ArtWalk featuring art exhibitions in Old Town's Arts District also on April 13.

The Scottsdale Sister Cities Association has several events planned throughout April including Arizona Gives Day and various cultural exchanges.

Ongoing programs offer Volunteer Income Tax Assistance through mid-April at Vista del Camino without appointments needed. An electronics recycling event is set for April 8 at the city's Corporation Yard.

Scottsdale continues its investment in sustainability with solar panel installations over parking spaces contributing power to local facilities once activated.

Recent community engagement includes high attendance at events like the Family ArtsFest and Founders Day celebration. A catalytic converter theft prevention event serviced nearly 250 cars in partnership with local organizations.

Scottsdale Aquatics trained new lifeguards eligible for employment opportunities within the city’s facilities offering various incentives for recruits.

In remembrance of a former Special Olympics teammate, new uniforms were unveiled featuring a memorial paw print design supported by donations from the Harkness family.

The city highlights job opportunities such as HVAC technician positions responsible for maintaining systems at water treatment facilities.
