The fire at the SRP-MIC landfill has been suppressed since early Sunday, but landscaping debris continued to smolder and smoke into Tuesday morning. Due to prevailing winds, parts of Scottsdale experienced increased smoke levels compared to when the fire was active.

Some residents have expressed concerns about air quality. The Maricopa County Air Quality Department monitors air quality in the valley using equipment placed around town. However, these monitors are not specifically designed to measure smoke from the landfill fire. More information is available on the Maricopa County Air Quality Status Map or by contacting their assistance line at 602-506-5102.

Neither Maricopa County nor the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) has issued a public statement or health advisory related to this incident.

According to general ADEQ guidance, individuals with lung conditions such as asthma or COPD should remain indoors during outdoor smoke events and take necessary precautions if they need to be outside.

Landfill personnel have assured the city that they are making all efforts to eliminate the source of the smoke.
