The Scottsdale City Council is set to discuss the continuation of its bridge housing program. This initiative offers temporary accommodation for local seniors and families with minor children who meet specific criteria. On August 21, the council will review a proposal to approve a $190,000 contract with a local hotel to secure five rooms until May 2025. The funding comes from an Arizona Department of Housing grant previously accepted by the council in June 2023, ensuring no city funds are utilized.

Additionally, the council will consider amending its public camping ordinance following a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling. The proposed change would eliminate the requirement for available shelter space before enforcing overnight camping restrictions in public areas. Instead, individuals violating the ordinance will receive a reasonable opportunity to relocate before facing citation or arrest.

Scottsdale residents have opportunities to engage with their community through programs like Neighborhood College, which offers educational tracks on various topics such as HOA/Condo management and local history.

Public meetings scheduled for the week include sessions of the Tourism Development Commission and City Council meetings on August 20 and 21. The Parks and Recreation Commission and Airport Advisory Commission will also convene on August 21.

Residents can participate in events such as the "Catch a Ride Backpack Drive" on August 20 at McKellips Police Station or enjoy entertainment at Splash & Groove on August 24 at Scottsdale Civic Center.

Free vaccines are available at Paiute Neighborhood Center on August 23, offering COVID-19, flu, hepatitis A and B, TDAP, and MMR vaccinations.

Pima Road improvements between Pinnacle Peak and Happy Valley roads are complete, enhancing road safety with widened lanes and drainage upgrades.

Upcoming closures related to Loop 101 bridge work are scheduled for August 22-23 as part of ongoing infrastructure projects by the Arizona Department of Transportation.

Scottsdale is hiring an Auditor/Senior Auditor position offering competitive benefits. Interested candidates can apply online.
