Scottsdale has maintained its status as a gold-level Bicycle Friendly Community, a recognition awarded by the League of American Bicyclists, for 12 years. This year, the city aims to upgrade its certification to platinum level. Public input is essential in this process, and residents are encouraged to participate by completing Scottsdale's Bicycle Friendly Community survey available online until August 25.

The city is among only 36 nationwide that have achieved this designation and one of just 13 gold-level cities with populations exceeding 100,000. Scottsdale boasts an extensive network of bicycle amenities, including 123 miles of paved shared-use paths, 156 miles of unpaved trails, and 192 miles of on-street bike lanes.

Transportation & Streets staff continuously seek ways to promote cycling through events such as Cycle the Arts and Bike to Work initiatives. This fall, Scottsdale plans to collaborate with the Scottsdale and Paradise Valley Unified School Districts for back-to-school bike safety events.

Scottsdale was first recognized as a silver-level Bicycle Friendly Community in 2005. Notably, it was the first community without a university or major college to achieve this status. The city will submit its application for platinum-level certification at the end of August and expects feedback from the League of American Bicyclists by December.
