Scottsdale announces rebates, ongoing projects and upcoming community events

Scottsdale Water has been recognized with a $138,000 rebate from the APS Peak Solutions energy savings program. Since joining the initiative in 2009, Scottsdale Water has accumulated over $1.3 million in rewards for its efforts to reduce energy consumption during peak periods. This involves using reserve water and alternative energy sources while limiting building cooling systems.

The Raintree Drive extension project continues to progress, aiming to connect the Loop 101 Pima Freeway with Scottsdale Road through the Scottsdale Airpark. This extension is expected to ease traffic congestion on Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and is funded by Proposition 400 sales tax dollars and voter-approved bonds from 2000. Completion is anticipated by spring 2023.

Scottsdale Earth Week will run from April 22 (Earth Day) to April 29 (Arbor Day), featuring events such as volunteer road cleanups, tree giveaways, a solar power presentation, and a green expo breakfast with city officials. The week concludes with a tree-planting ceremony marking Scottsdale’s 40th year as a Tree City USA.

Cultural events include "The Other Mozart" at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts from April 6-10, highlighting Nannerl Mozart's story. Arizona Bike Week returns from April 6-10 at WestWorld with concerts and outdoor activities. Additionally, an art show organized by the Scottsdale Sister Cities Association will be held at the Phoenix Mexican Consulate’s Office starting April 7.

Joan Fudala will host "Hometown Happy Hour," focusing on local history and environmental topics at Civic Center Library. Registration is open for these sessions.

Scottsdale's Back to School program is accepting registrations to support low-income families with school supplies for fall distribution on July 20 at Scottsdale Stadium. Meanwhile, donations are being collected for Senior Services’ Beat the Heat outreach program until May 27.

A Green Building webinar titled “Simple Solutions to Restore Our Earth” will take place on April 7, led by Dorie Morales of Green Living magazine.

Local senior centers are distributing free rapid COVID-19 tests while supplies last. Residents are advised to prepare for mosquito season as temperatures rise.

The Daughters of the American Revolution recently rededicated a monument honoring fallen K9 officers at the Scottsdale Police Department headquarters.
