The City of Coronado's recent audit has highlighted issues regarding the lease compliance and contract administration of the Coronado Golf Course. The 36-acre property, combined with an additional 8 acres owned by Odanoroc LLC, functions as a 9-hole golf course and driving range. In November 2005, the city entered into a 30-year lease agreement with Odanoroc LLC for the operation of this facility.

According to the audit findings, the operator has not complied with certain terms of the lease agreement. Specifically, the first lease payment due in July 2021 remains unpaid. Summary records from the operator estimate this overdue amount to be approximately $9,400. However, required detailed transaction records were not provided during the audit to confirm these receipts.

In addition to financial discrepancies, past safety and maintenance issues have not been addressed promptly by the operator. The city's contract file that should document decisions and actions related to this agreement also requires better organization and completeness.

The department responsible for overseeing this lease has acknowledged these recommendations and plans to complete its action plan by May 31, 2022.
