Scottsdale seeks community input amid recognition for resident engagement

The city of Scottsdale is seeking community input on the impact of noise within the city. This initiative aims to assess potential changes to ordinances and other mitigation strategies to balance noise control with maintaining a vibrant business and event environment. Residents are invited to attend one of three workshops scheduled for November 2, 6, and 7 at the Scottsdale Community Design Studio.

Scottsdale recently received the "Voice of the People Award" for its commitment to resident engagement. The award, presented by Polco and the International City/County Management Association, recognized the city's use of technology in gathering resident feedback through platforms like Hello Scottsdale and Speak Up Scottsdale. Over 13,000 responses were collected via Polco on various topics including water-saving measures and sustainability plans.

As part of Arizona Cities and Towns Week, running until October 21, Scottsdale is highlighting municipal services and honoring those who serve in local government. The city encourages residents to follow their social media channels for updates.

Upcoming public meetings include sessions from several commissions such as Human Relations, Tourism Development, Library Board, Parks and Recreation Commission, among others throughout mid-October.

A variety of events are scheduled in Scottsdale this month. These include a Civil War Roundtable lecture on October 17 at the Civic Center Library, Oktoberfest celebrations on October 19 at Via Linda Senior Center, and K9 trials at WestWorld on October 21-22. Halloween-themed activities will be held throughout October including Dunkin’ for Pumpkins on October 22 and a Fall Festival on October 28.

The city will also commemorate Dia de Los Muertos with art installations from October 27-30 at the Civic Center Arts Installation Experience. A performance titled "Fiesta De Muertos Y Danza" by Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company is set for October 28 at the Virginia G. Piper Theater.

Residents can learn more about Wyatt Earp and Billy the Kid through programs hosted by author Mark Warren at Western Spirit: Scottsdale’s Museum of the West on October 24-25.

The Scottsdale Concert Band will perform its season opener on October 25 at Scottsdale Community College Amphitheater featuring works by Dvorak and Mancini.

Scottsdale continues its civic center renovation celebration with multiple activities until November 22. Notable events include a presentation by historian Joan Fudala on October 17 and an anniversary event for Windows to the West artwork on October 26.

Other ongoing programs involve providing feedback for parks improvement plans through workshops or online questionnaires. An adaptive recreation focus group meeting is scheduled for October 19.

Residents are encouraged to donate hygiene items during Domestic Violence Awareness Month until October's end as part of efforts led by Scottsdale Victims' Services Department.

For construction updates or trail maintenance concerns in neighborhoods, residents can use available city resources like the Scottsdale EZ portal.
