A wildfire was reported around 4 p.m. on June 27 in the area of 130th Street and Ranch Gate Road, approximately two miles north of Tom's Thumb Trailhead. Emergency response units, including Scottsdale Fire and Police, responded swiftly to combat the blaze that rapidly expanded to about 700 acres.

The fire prompted an evacuation order affecting several homes, mostly located in unincorporated Maricopa County. Driven by wind, the fire moved southeast from Scottsdale into McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Maricopa County.

As of 10 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27, firefighting crews continued efforts to contain the wildfire. The Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management has assumed command of the incident.

In response to the situation, the Red Cross established an emergency evacuation center at Cactus Shadows High School, located at 5802 E. Dove Valley Road. Due to safety concerns, Scottsdale's Fraesfield and Tom's Thumb trailheads will remain closed on Wednesday, June 28.
